Bio

Hazim Hardeman is a Presidential Scholar and Prize Fellow in the American Studies program. His research looks at the how the various practices that emerge from the routine encounter with premature death allow young people in inner city black communities to reflect on the economic, social, and political conditions of their lives. This work is located within broader preoccupations with questions of political economy, critical theory, theorizing race, urban history, black vernacular cultures, neoliberalism, and black studies. Before Harvard, he completed an A.A. in Communication Studies at the Community College of Philadelphia; a B.A. in Rhetoric and Public Advocacy at Temple University, and a M.Phil in History at St Johns College at the University of Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar.
